Junior Spence is the Founder and CEO of Urban City Solutions, a community influenced organisation and initiative, specializing in delivering Outreach, Support, Mentoring and Community Projects, that advance education, confidence, and positivity for young people in local communities who are vulnerable and hard to reach and difficult to engage.
Born and raised in Hackney, with a lived experience of the negative influences of living in urban communities, having had several close friends killed through knife and gun crime, Junior Spence decided that he would not be a victim of the streets, and decided to use his experiences to help young people.
With over 25 years of experience, Junior Spence is fully conversant with the needs of urban communities, and has worked closely with young people from violent and troubled backgrounds, including gang members, prison inmates, ex-offenders and youth within the care system, he has successfully managed to actively engage with a section of society that would have otherwise remained marginalized and disenfranchised, his passion is to empower young people, irrespective of their background to discover their purpose, unlock their potential and lead positive, fulfilled lives.
As a result of his impact on various communities, Junior Spence has been honoured with a Peace Award (for the group who most impacted their community) also The London Community Awards (awarded for services to and for communities in Greater London) including other recognitions, he has been featured in several local and national print and TV media outlets, including the national news on BBC and ITV, he has also honoured to have met the late, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth personally, along with several serving UK Prime Ministers.
Junior Spence is highly respected and sought after as a consultant and Urban Youth Specialist, sitting on several youth and community panels over the years helping to find solutions for creating harmony in the community, and because of his service and experience, he is often called upon to give consultancy and advice to local authorities and statutory services, for complex cases regarding a young person and young people in multi-agency meetings, social services management meetings, Metropolitan Police, and other strategic planning meetings.
Junior Spence has organised many successful youth projects on some of the most deprived estates in London and continues to serve different communities all over London and different parts of the UK, through various events, outreach programmes, and community initiatives, this has instilled hope back into these communities.
Junior Spence has certainly been heralded as a forerunner and pioneer in urban youth work and has been honoured and celebrated for his determination and spirit of excellence, young people have referred to him as a mentor and their source of inspiration, because of his ability to motivate and see potential in them that others may have overlooked and considered to be the outcasts of society.
We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.
